It has been dreadfully long since I posted installments in the “Reactions” series. Having just come across the work of Swiss-born, expressionist Paul Klee, here is one of my favorites: “Rose Garden”, 1920.
Klee always seemed to have a particular love of the human body; note the massed, nearly “flesh”-colored tones here. Though he seems to always be trying to find some transcendence there too. Albeit through mere ornament, at times.
